BJP members riot in Parliament Standing Committee meeting

New Delhi 8th August 2020 Saturday

When the Union Standing Committee on Science, Industries, Water, Forests and Environment met under the chairmanship of former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh, the BJP MPs tried to disrupt the meeting by shouting 'yes'.

The meeting was convened by the Standing Committee on Environmental Impact Assessment. On this occasion, a draft of measures to protect the environment was ready to be discussed. The BJP MPs made the excuse that the draft was in English, we did not get the Hindi translation so we could not participate in the discussion. He also argued that the draft needed no discussion.

Jairam Ramesh is the chairman of this standing committee and he managed the meeting successfully despite the yes of the BJP members. It is a well-known fact that air pollution in many cities in the country, including the capital Delhi and Ahmedabad, is causing respiratory and lung diseases among the people. There are some months in the year when drivers on the roads of Delhi do not even see a road five feet away due to thick fog-like pollution, which increases the risk of accidents. With that in mind, a meeting was held on Friday to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (Environmental Impact Survey).

The meeting was also attended by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and NCP Rajya Sabha MP Vandana Chauhan. Both the MPs also raised some questions regarding the protection of the environment. Environment Ministry officials presented their details which were questioned by the members present. Owaisi and Vandana insisted that some of the issues were really thought-provoking and should be answered satisfactorily.
