Arabian Sea to weaken further Pakistan, Germany's refusal increases risk of devastation

Islamabad, Ta. Wednesday 26 August 2020

The world knows that Pakistan is notorious for providing safe haven to terrorists there. It was once again costly for Pakistan to follow the old trends without heeding the warning of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Germany has explicitly refused to help Pakistan modernize its submarines.

The Federal Security Council, chaired by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, has decided that Germany will not provide air-independent propulsion systems for Pakistan's submarines.

What is AIP system?

Air independent propulsion (AIP), the submarine's dependence on atmospheric air. Typically a submarine with a conventional diesel electric engine has to come to the surface every day for the oxygen needed for fuel combustion.

A submarine is in its weakest position when it comes to the surface and the enemy can easily report it. AIP can also run atmospheric air for up to a week without the engine of any submarine. This means that in the meantime no submarine can stay underwater for long.

India's maritime power is impenetrable

The Indian Navy has its own Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) developed in India. Developed by the Naval Material Research Lab. According to defense experts, the tweak by Germany to Pakistan will have a detrimental effect on the capability of Pakistan's naval submarines.

It is also believed that Germany has given the tweak to Pakistan because it has so far failed to punish the perpetrators of the terrorist attack on the German embassy. A terrorist attack on the German embassy building in Kabul in 2017 killed 150 people. The terrorist attack was believed to be the handiwork of the Haqqani network, which is active throughout Pakistan.
