New Delhi 8th August 2020 Saturday

Unemployment was on the rise in the capital, New Delhi, as in other states, following the Corona and two-and-a-half-month lockdown. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a job portal on July 27 to help unemployed youth. In this portal, details of 22 lakh vacancies were placed by different companies. Unemployed youths made a flurry of petitions and reports surfaced that one million out of twenty-two million vacancies had been filled in the last ten days.

The Delhi government had canceled duplicate entries. However, details of 19 lakh vacancies out of 22 were on the portal. Now with nearly one million vacancies being filled, there were still nine lakh vacancies. Day by day new applications of the unemployed come. A spokesperson said that the job is done in such a way as to be qualified. Delhi government's employment minister Gopal Rai said there were many vacancies. But those who do not find suitable candidates for the post are left vacant. At present there are eight and a half lakh applicants against the nine lakh vacancies. The company will try to accommodate those who are qualified for the position. The Delhi government was monitoring the situation, he added. He further said that the AAP government had made this arrangement so that the deserving candidates could get jobs as soon as possible. The system received a better response than expected.
