Congress MP and former Union Minister Manish Tewari had sharply questioned whether the UPA was responsible for the defeat of the Congress in the 2014 and 2019 parliamentary elections. This morning, Manish asked the question on Twitter and said that the question is important in the current political situation and needed to be answered.

Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday convened a meeting of Congress MPs in the Rajya Sabha. In it, Manish Tiwari asked this sharp question. Other former ministers present at the meeting, Kapil Sibal and P Chidambaram, also questioned whether the UPA was responsible for the defeat of the Congress party in the 2014 and 2019 parliamentary elections.

Elaborating on the question, newly elected Maharashtra MP Rajiv Satve said the Congress had 200 seats in the Lok Sabha in 2009. In 2014, the party won only 44 seats. We should all self-examine how this happened. Kapil Sibal and P Chidambaram also had the same view that the party is losing its self-reflection on how our dire situation happened and who is responsible for it.

Rajiv Satve said that self-reflection should start from our own home. It should be considered whether the UPA can be held responsible for this defeat.

From 2004 to 2014, the UPA was a coalition of various parties, including the Congress, DMK, Shiv Sena, Lalu Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Muslim League and the National Conference Party of Jammu and Kashmir.
