Vikas Dubey, the main accused in the Kanpur shootout scandal, has been shot dead in a police encounter. He was killed in a clash with police when the UP STF was taking him from Ujjain to Kanpur. A Kanpur police official said the jeep of the STF convoy coming to Kanpur with Vikas Dubey overturned. After the vehicle overturned, Vikas snatched the weapon and tried to flee.

Police challenged Vikas to surrender but Vikas started firing so that some sepoys were also injured. Vikas Dubey was later shot dead in the police retaliation. Historian Vikas was shot by police while fleeing and news of his death came shortly after.

The accident happened at 6:30 am and according to the people present there, they heard gunshots after the vehicle overturned but they got out of there. It was raining heavily at the time of the overturning and the STF vehicle was speeding away as there was a media vehicle behind.

The STF convoy carrying historian Vikas Dubey from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh to Kanpur overturned and at that time Vikas Dubey snatched the pistol of the STF officer and tried to flee. The convoy overturned uncontrollably on Sachendi Highway near Barra Thana area of ​​Kanpur. Vikas' body was taken to Halat Hospital in Kanpur after the collision and doctors at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital confirmed that Vikas was killed.

Vikas Dubey was accused of killing eight policemen and was arrested about 150 hours after the incident at the Mahakal temple in Ujjain yesterday.
