As part of Vocal for Local, Made in India and measures to make the country self-sufficient, the central government has imposed a ban on color television content imported from China, which is expected to cost China Rs 2,000 crore. China exports billions of rupees worth of color LED TVs to India every year. The Indian government's decision was likely to hit China hard. Corona has caused a kind of crisis in China.

The popularity of Chinese color TVs in the Indian TV market has skyrocketed in recent times. The central government was constantly taking anti-China measures after the Galvan ravine incident. Just two days ago, the Indian government banned a number of Chinese apps, including Tick Talk. Earlier, the central government had banned Chinese companies from making various purchases through government accounts. Such companies included Chinese companies selling goods to Indian Railways. In 2019-20, India imported a total of Rs 5,800 crore worth of color televisions. It had China's Rs 2,100 crore TV alone. This will give an idea of the extent to which China has made inroads in the color TV market.

Now local TV producers will benefit from the government's move. A Panasonic India spokesperson said consumers will now get high-quality televisions. The quality of Chinese television and especially its picture tubes was poor. Now consumers will get good quality assembled televisions.

Experts in the field believe that the Centre's move will hit Chinese television producers hard.
