Terrorist infiltration has increased in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar Dt.31 July 2020 Friday

Violence in Jammu and Kashmir has declined since the repeal of Article 370, which grants special status to the state, on August 5 last year, but there have been contradictory claims that infiltration by militant groups has increased. State Director General of Police Dilbag Singh on Thursday released comparative details about the situation in the state over the past year. This is a comparison of the situation after Burhan Wani, a terrorist affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen, was shot dead in July 2016 and the state's special status was revoked.

Jammu and Kashmir police say thousands of people took to the streets after Burhan Wani was shot dead and there was constant violence. There were 2,500 incidents of violence in just six months after Burhan was killed. If we compare the situation with the abolition of the special status of the state at that time, after the abolition of the special status, there were only 196 incidents of violence in the Union Territory. However, not a single man lost his life. According to DGP Dilbag Singh, there were only 124 incidents to be noted between January and June 2020 after the state's special status was abolished. Incidents of casualties among security personnel were also reduced. However the terrorists stepped up infiltration attempts.

A total of 76 people lost their lives in 2019. Only 36 people were killed in the first six months of this year. Thus there were conflicting reports on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Most of the state's leaders were incarcerated when the state's special status was abolished. Some of them were recently released.
