Tamil Nadu: Boiler blast at Neveli Lignite Corporation kills 5, injures 17

A naval blast has taken place at Neveli Lignite Corporation in Neveli, Tamil Nadu. There is a fire brigade team near the NLC. Which is trying to overcome the situation. A team from Cuddalore district administration has reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

Still reported due to the blast. Initial reports said only one death and several injuries were reported due to the boiler blast. There is a possibility that the death toll could rise. A similar blast occurred on May 7, killing at least five people.


On May 7, a boiler blast occurred at the Neville Power Plant. The incident took place in an 84-meter-high boiler. Employees and technicians were present at 32 meters at the time. The fire was contained by the CISF's fire wing after the blast. Several people were injured in the incident. In which 5 people were killed.

The company said after the incident that the NLC had formed a six-member committee to investigate the case. Which will be chaired by the General Manager. The committee will investigate the whole incident and take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in future. A month after the May incident, the boiler exploded again.

It is worth mentioning that the capital is located 180 kilometers away from Chennai. The seven units generate 1,470 MW of electricity. A boiler exploded. Which has started a large scale fire. Currently trying to control the fire.
