The Kerala government's law challenging the practice of sacrificing in the name of gods in temples has been challenged in the Supreme Court, which has enacted a law banning the practice of sacrifice, the apex court has issued a notice to the Kerala government.
The Kerala High Court has challenged the Kerala High Court's order banning animals and birds in the name of deities in temples.
A notice has been issued to the Kerala government on a petition filed in a bench headed by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice SA Bobde, alleging that sacrificing is an integral part of the religious tradition, violating the provisions of Article 25 (1) of the Constitution. .
On June 16, the Kerala High Court had rejected an application filed against the Kerala Animal and Sacrifices Prohibition Act, saying in its judgment that there was no fact in the application to prove that the practice was part of religion.
