Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a 750 MW solar power plant at Rewa in Madhya Pradesh at 11 pm today. Prime Minister Modi will dedicate Asia's largest solar power plant to the nation through video conferencing. In Madhya Pradesh, for the first time since the formation of the BJP government led by Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Prime Minister Modi is going to be involved in a state program which is considered very important.

"I will inaugurate the 750 MW solar plant to be built at Rewa in Madhya Pradesh on July 10 at 11 am through video conferencing," the Prime Minister tweeted. This solar project accelerates our commitment to increase renewable energy capacity by 2022. ' The project is expected to emit about 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.

The solar project is also the first renewable energy project to supply an institutional customer outside the state. The scheme will provide cheaper electricity as compared to coal power plants. From here, electricity is being sold at Rs 97 paise (Rs 2.97) per unit. About 24 per cent of the total power generated by the plant will be supplied to the Delhi Metro while the remaining 76 per cent will be supplied to the state power distribution companies (DISCOMs) in Madhya Pradesh.

Rewa's 1,590 acres of land in Asia's largest solar plant has started generating electricity since January 2020. The plant has been set up as a joint venture between the Madhya Pradesh Energy Development Corporation and the Solar Energy Corporation of the Government of India. Three private companies are generating 250-250 MW of electricity here. The plant is generating 37,000 units of electricity per day. The electricity generated here is sent to the grid from where it is delivered to Madhya Pradesh and other areas.
