Nepal's PM Oli refuses to resign, decides to split into Communist Party of Nepal

New delhi date. 4 July 2020, Saturday

Nepal's political crisis has deepened. Today's meeting of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of Nepal has been postponed. Communist Party of Nepal leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal has not arrived to meet 'Prachanda' Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and at the same time the Communist Party of Nepal seems to be moving towards division. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has categorically refused to resign.

Standing committee meeting postponed until July 6

The meeting between Prachanda and Oli lasted for three hours on Friday but no agreement could be reached between the two. A meeting between the Prime Minister and Prachanda was to be held at 9 am today and then a meeting of the party's standing committee was to be held at 11 am which will now be held on Monday, July 6.

The demand for one person, one position system

Incumbent Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Prime Minister Prachanda are both acting chairmen of the Communist Party of Nepal. Former Prime Minister Prachanda's faction wants KP Sharma to resign as acting chairman and let the party run its own affairs. But KP Sharma Oli is not ready to resign as acting chairman.

Prachanda has repeatedly complained of a lack of coordination between the government and the party. At the same time, he is emphasizing on the NCP's adherence to the 'one person, one position' system.
