Monuments to be opened across the country from today, order to close Taj Mahal-Agra Fort

Agra, Ta. 6 July 2020, Monday

With the number of people infected with the corona virus steadily rising in the country, the Agra administration has canceled its decision to open historic buildings in view of the risk of corona epidemic. Following this decision, the Taj Mahal and other historic buildings will not open in Agra from today, i.e. from July 6. Historical monuments like Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Akbar's Tomb and Alexander etc. are included in Agra's protected monument containment zone.

Earlier, the UP tourism minister tweeted that the Taj Mahal and other historical monuments would be opened in Agra from July 6, but in view of the growing Corona case in Agra, the administration has decided not to open any historical monuments till further orders. The world-famous Taj Mahal has been closed for the last 110 days due to the Corona epidemic.

Delhi's Red Fort and Qutub Minar will open

According to a report by the Ministry of Culture, all the monuments protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will be reopened to the public from July 6. A limited number of tourists will be allowed and only e-tickets will be used for admission. Apart from that it will be mandatory for tourists to wear masks.

The Ministry of Culture had earlier in June reopened 820 of the more than 3,000 monuments under ASI where religious ceremonies are held. As many as 3,691 monuments and archeological sites protected by the central government have been closed since March 17 due to the Corona virus crisis, which is being maintained by the ASI.

As a rule, hand washing or sanitization and thermal scanning at the entrance of the monument will be mandatory. A maximum of 1,500 people per slot will be allowed to enter Delhi's Qutub Minar and Red Fort.
