Manipur Water Project Rakshabandhan gift for sisters of North East: Prime Minister Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday gave a new gift to Manipur. The foundation of water supply project was laid here under Har Ghar Jal Mission. Meanwhile, in his address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the country has not stopped even in times of crisis, the country is not tired, until the vaccine comes, we must continue to fight vigorously.

PM Modi said that the state government is getting continuous help from the central government. The state government has been working to fight Corona. About 2.5 million people in the state have received free foodgrains. More than 1.5 lakh women have received free gas cylinders. One lakh water connections are being provided daily.

Prime Minister Modi assured that the Center was continuing to provide assistance to the flood-affected states in the Northeast. The PM said today's water project would benefit not only the present but also future generations. Pure water will not only quench thirst, it will also keep people healthy and provide employment.

Last year, when the Water Life Mission was being launched, I said that we have to work faster than the previous government. Our goal was to deliver water to 150 million households. Village-to-village pipelines have been set up during the lockdown. The government is working to provide better living facilities to the citizens.

During his address, Chief Minister Biren Singh said that the PMO had approved the project on a single letter from the state government. The state is getting constant help from the center.

The Manipur Water Supply Project is part of the Centre's water life mission to provide safe and adequate drinking water to every rural household by 2024. The Center has provided financial assistance to Manipur for domestic tap connections to cover 1,185 populations with 1,42,749 houses.

The state government plans to cover the remaining households through additional sources of funding. This includes funds from the North East Region Development Department. Externally funded, the project is designed to provide domestic tap connections to 25 towns and 1,731 rural populations, covering 2,80,756 households in 16 districts of the Greater Imphal project area.
