In Agra, Thakur unloaded a woman's body from a cheetah, Mayawati told Wifri

Agra Ta. Tuesday 28 July 2020

In Agra, defiant Thakurs prevented the cremation of a Dalit woman in a cemetery. The Dalits buried the woman elsewhere. BSP president Mayawati was shocked to receive the information and termed Thakur's move as shameful. He also demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident.

The woman was of nut race and died after a long illness. While her relatives were preparing for cremation in the crematorium, Thakur reached there and stopped the cremation of the woman by shouting that the crematorium is for the mourners, not for the Dalits. He unloaded the woman's body from the cheetah.

Calling herself the savior of the Dalits, BSP President Mayawati was appalled to learn of the incident and called for a high-level inquiry into the whole incident, calling Thakur's grandfather a disgrace.

The sad thing about this whole incident is that the police rushed to the crematorium as soon as the incident was reported but the defiant Thakurs did not count the police. The body of the half-burnt woman had to be taken away and cremated there. "We have ordered an inquiry into the incident in Achhnera village," Agra SSP Bablu Kumar told the media. Necessary action will be taken against those responsible.

Such incidents occur almost daily in most of the states of North India. On the issue of filling water from the village well, on the issue of removing the horse if there is a Dalit marriage, on the issue of entering the temple by the Dalits or on the issue of burial in the cemetery, the stubborn Thakurs have been constantly oppressing the Dalits. Even 70 years after the country became independent, this situation has not changed at all.
