China bows to India's tough stance, troops in Ladakh will retreat

In this series, China held a political meeting with India on the border dispute in eastern Ladakh and agreed to withdraw its troops from the area in order to maintain peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Disclosing this here today, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that the talks were held under the framework of the Indo-China Border Matters for Consideration and Coordination (WMCC).

The video conferencing was chaired by the Joint Secretary (East Asia) of the Ministry of External Affairs from India, while the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs was joined by the Director General of the Border and Maritime Department.

"We are reviewing the situation in the Indo-China border areas, including a review of the withdrawal of troops from the LAC in the western region," the ministry said. They said both sides agreed that the agreement reached between the senior commanders needed to be seriously implemented.

According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the two sides resumed talks on maintaining peace in the border area under the bilateral agreement and protocol, as well as the complete withdrawal of troops from around the LAC.

The Foreign Ministry said that China also agreed that long-term peace in the border areas is essential for the overall development of bilateral relations.
