New Delhi, 25 July 2020, Saturday

The Corona virus and the lockdown imposed to control it forced people to stay indoors for months. However, many positive aspects of it have also come to the fore. Due to the closure of restaurants and pubs, people started making their own meals at home and this led to the discovery of new dishes.

Online delivery of food was very high during the lockdown and people also ordered the most biryani. The quarantine dish, a report by online food delivery startup Swiggy, reveals that Indians are the most preferred biryani.

According to the report, Indians had placed more than 5.5 lakh orders for biryani during the lockdown. It was followed by Butter Nan with 3.35 lakh orders and Masala Dhosa with 3.31 lakh orders. According to Swiggy, biryani became the fourth most ordered dish in a row.

According to Swiggy, biryani has topped the list of most ordered dishes for the fourth year in a row. According to Swiggy, it delivered 32.3 crore kg of onions and 5.66 crore kg of bananas. The lockdown saw an average of 65,000 food packets ordered each night by 8 p.m. During the lockdown, Swiggy delivered meals, groceries and other essentials through its on-demand delivery platform.

Even during the indefinite months of lockdown in India, people did not hesitate to salt their mouths. People ordered choco lava cakes 129,000 times during this period. An analysis of orders placed on Swiggy in various cities last month resulted in 84,558 roses and 27,317 butterscotch mouse cake orders. Apart from that, Swiggy also delivered about 120,000 birthday cakes.

Earlier last year, Swiggy also released a report from January to October 2019. It had the highest number of orders for chicken biryani in the country. At that time, Masala Dhosa was at the second position in the list while Paneer Butter Masala was the third most ordered.
