Amid heavy rains in Kerala, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for nine districts in the state. The meteorological department has issued yellow alerts in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Kannur districts of Kerala.

Heavy rains have lashed most parts of Kerala, causing a drop in temperature. According to the meteorological department, the daytime temperature in Thiruvananthapuram has reached 25 degrees. "The monsoon has not yet reached Kerala, we are monitoring the weather regularly," Indian Meteorological Department Director General Mrityunjay Mahapatra said on Sunday. The monsoon is expected to hit Kerala on June 1.

Earlier, the Indian Meteorological Department had said in its forecast that the monsoon would arrive late in Kerala this year. The meteorological department said the monsoon could come until June 5 this year.
