We will not allow Nepal to become Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh: Prachanda

Kathmandu, 26 June 2020 Friday

The upheaval in Nepal's ruling Communist Party is at an all-time high. The political future of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will be decided at a meeting of the party's standing committee.

Given the anti-party sentiment, it is expected that Oli will resign as party president or prime minister. It is possible that Oli, who is considered close to China, will resign in both positions.

The trailer of what will happen in the meeting of the standing committee which has resumed from today has been seen only on Wednesday. Both party presidents KP Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal targeted each other.

Oli is in the minority in the standing committee, but the allegations against him are high. Oli will be asked to step down as prime minister, according to two members of the opposition camp in the standing committee, according to a report in the Kathmandu Post.

"The way Dahal spoke on Wednesday sends a clear message that Oli's condition is not right," said one member. Prachanda gave a clear and harsh message to Oli.

"He also said that Dahal also mentioned the possibilities and warned Oli what he could do to stay in power."

"We have heard that work is underway on the Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh model to stay in power," Prachanda said. But such efforts will not succeed.

No one can imprison us in the name of corruption. It is not easy to run the country with the help of the army, and it is not possible to run the government with the opposition by breaking up the party.

It is being said that KP Oli is completely isolated in the party. They may be told that they will have to step down as party president or prime minister.

According to sources, Oli will choose to step down as party president if given a choice. Apart from this he could propose a cabinet reshuffle under another option in which more positions would be given to the leaders of the Prachanda camp. But the opposition camp is not showing interest.

Seeing the atmosphere in front of him, Prime Minister Oli called Prachanda to his residence on Thursday and he tried to reach an agreement to avoid embarrassment. However, Dahal has made it clear that he or a group of his people will not change his attitude.
