There is nothing wrong with importing from a country for the country's progress: Nirmala Sitharaman

New delhi date. Friday 26 June 2020

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said there was nothing wrong with importing from a country for the country's progress. This statement of the Finance Minister can be considered very important amid the growing demand for controlling the imports from China in the country.

It may be mentioned that 20 people of our country were martyred in the recent violent clashes on the Indo-China Line of Control. Since then, anti-China nationalism has reached its peak in the country. Some organizations have called for a boycott of Chinese goods. In Indo-China trade, Paldu is on China's side. In the year 2018-19, India imported 70 70 billion from China.

Addressing activists of the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit, the finance minister on Thursday said there was nothing wrong with importing raw materials that were not available in the country and were needed by any of our industries.

Exports that increase employment opportunities

Informing about the central government's self-reliance drive, Nirmala Sitharaman said to increase its productivity and create employment opportunities.

There is nothing wrong with importing and it should definitely happen but importing should happen when it increases employment opportunities, accelerates progress and brings self-reliance in the Indian economy.

Why is the idol of Lord Ganesha imported?

The Finance Minister said that the surprise comes when even the idol of Lord Ganesha is imported from China. Is it necessary to order clay idols from China? Nirmala Sitharaman has said this while addressing BJP workers in Tamil Nadu through a virtual rally.

He said that every year during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, earthen idols of Lord Ganesha are bought from local potters but now it is seen that idols of Lord Ganesha are also imported from China. He asked if we are not in a position to make idols of Lord Ganesha?

Import of some goods may be reconsidered

Apart from this he said that there are some things that should be considered on import. Such as items used in worship, soap boxes, plastic items. If all these products are made in the country then why do we import them. We should promote small scale industries in the direction of a self-reliant India.
