Security forces clean up, Kashmir's Tral district free of terrorists for first time since 1989

Srinagar, Ta. 28. June. 2020 Sunday

The manner in which the security forces have cleared Kashmir of terrorists in recent times is unprecedented. As a result, the Tral area of Kashmir, a stronghold of terrorism, has been cleared of militants for the first time since 1989.

Top commanders of the militant outfit have reached Yamasadan in the wake of a long-running military operation in the area, 45 km from Srinagar. Jammu and Kashmir Police IG Vijay Kumar himself has said that no terrorists are active here at present.

The Tral area of Pulwama district once housed the homes of a number of most wanted militants, including Burhan Wani and Zakir Musa, who were killed in an army encounter.

This is the first time since 1989 that there has been no terrorist attack in Tral. So far, a number of operations have been carried out in the area, which is considered a stronghold of the terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen.

The convoy of security forces has been attacked in the past in the Tral area. Whenever an operation is carried out here, the locals have also tried to throw stones at it.
