Parliament considers hybrid and virtual option to run monsoon session of 2020

New delhi date. 10 June 2020, Wednesday

A number of questions have been raised about the regular session of the current Parliament House in view of Corona's transition. It is difficult to conduct a session with so many MPs together in the current building of Parliament to observe social distance under the Corona Protocol. According to a report, a hybrid and virtual option is being considered in such a situation.

It is learned that the Central Hall or Vigyan Bhavan of the Parliament is not large enough to accommodate all the MPs to follow the rules of social distance. Because of this, presiding officers of both houses are exploring the possibility of running a hybrid or virtual session. Under the hybrid session, some MPs will be allowed to come to Parliament in person while the rest will be able to take part in the session through video conferencing.

One of these options is stamped with a choice so that the majority of the members who are required to be present in the day-to-day proceedings with the observance of social distance will have the opportunity to sit in the House. The monsoon session of Parliament is usually held in the month of July.

In a meeting convened by Rajya Sabha Speaker M Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the general secretaries of both the houses said there was no arrangement for seating all MPs in the central hall and Vigyan Bhavan with social distance.
