Four NPP ministers, including deputy CM, resign in Manipur, three BJP MLAs join Congress

In Manipur, the BJP-led NDA A cloud of crisis is hovering over Biren Singh's government. Three BJP MLAs quit the party on Wednesday and joined the Congress, while Deputy Chief Minister Joykumar Singh and three other ministers have also resigned. Apart from that, an independent MLA has also withdrawn his support to the government.

MLAs who have split from the BJP and joined the Congress include S Subhash Chandra Singh, TT Haokip and Samuel Jendai. Apart from that, Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh, Minister N Kayisi, Minister L Jayant Kumar Singh and Letpao Haokip have resigned from the National People's Party (NPP). TMC's T Robindro Singh and Independent MLA Shahabuddin have also withdrawn their support to the BJP.

Resignation handed over to CM

In a separate resignation letter handed over to state Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the deputy chief minister and other ministers said they were resigning as cabinet ministers in the BJP-led government in Manipur. Joykumar Singh also confirmed that his official resignation had been handed over to the Chief Minister.

It is learned that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has also convened a meeting on the issue. In these circumstances, the Congress may claim to form a government in Manipur on Thursday. On the other hand, the BJP is also approaching MLAs from other forces.

Politics for power

The BJP government in Manipur is in crisis. In Manipur, the NDA alliance had the support of four MLAs from the NPP, four from the NPF and two from the Independents. Thus, in Manipur, the BJP had the support of 32 MLAs.

Now four members of the NPP, one member of the TMC and one member of the IND have withdrawn their support and the party has 18 MLAs left after the resignation of three BJP MLAs. In Teva, the BJP can claim the support of 23 MLAs, including four from the NPF and one from the LJP. While Congress can claim to form a government with the support of 34 MLAs.
