Britain's multinational company Unilever has announced a boycott of Facebook's platform. Later other companies joined in. As a result, Facebook's stock market plunged 8.3 percent. Mark Zuckerberg's fortune has dropped by 7 billion. Zuckerberg also fell behind in the list of the richest people in the world.
Shares of Facebook tumbled 8.3 percent in a single day. This is the biggest crash in Facebook shares in three months. The crash affected Mark Zuckerberg's estate. Zuckerberg's fortune fell by 7.2 billion.
Unilever, the world's largest advertiser, boycotted Facebook. Unilever has said it will stop advertising on Facebook's platform altogether from this year. Following Unilever, many other companies also joined the no-advertising campaign on Facebook.
Verizon Communications, a big name in chocolate products, Hershey's company, etc. have stopped advertising on the Facebook platform for some time now. Coca-Cola also announced that in the last 30 days the company has stopped advertising to Facebook.
According to Bloomberg Billionaire's list, the change in Facebook's market value following the companies' Facebook boycott has also pushed Zuckerberg back from the rich list. Zuckerberg's fortune fell seven dollars and he moved to fourth. His third wife was Bernard Arnold, a French businessman. Zuckerberg's fortune fell to 82 82 billion.
Many companies have sharply criticized Facebook's stance, saying it has failed to spread hate speech and hate speech as well as biased posts. Complaints have been raised for a long time that Facebook is not taking action against hate users and companies.
