Deve Gowda to contest Rajya Sabha in Karnataka with Congress support, to register candidature tomorrow

Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal Secular (JDS) supremo HD Deve Gowda has decided to contest the Rajya Sabha elections at the request of party MLAs, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other leaders and will contest on Tuesday. The announcement was made by HD Kumaraswamy, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister and Deve Gowda.

Asked whether the party would support Deve Gowda in the Rajya Sabha elections, Karnataka's gigantic leader and former minister DK Shivakumar said, "Congress is a secular party. We are clear that we will not allow any third BJP candidate to win in the Rajya Sabha elections. Our leader Sonia Gandhi will think about this. He said.

The Congress could easily send one of its candidates from the southern state to the upper house. For this, the name of veteran leader Mallikarjun Khadge has been announced. However, despite voting in support of Khadge, the Congress will have the votes of an additional 14 MLAs. These votes will be used to support Deve Gowda to stop the party rival BJP.
