Beijing, Monday 22 June 2020

Heavy rains have lashed 24 provinces in China, while Chinese hydrologist Wang Weiloa has warned of the safety of the Three Gorges Dam, which could collapse, with more than 7,300 homes in southern China affected by the storm since June 1. The quake affected about 8 million people as of Monday morning, and is expected to cost about 29 2.9 million.

According to Taiwan News, the people of China are worried about the possible damage to the world's largest hydroelectric project due to continuous rains, according to a New Talk report, the government has reassured people that the dam work is strong, although Wang claims the dam is in danger.

Wang said the dam's design, construction, and quality oversight were all done by a single group, and the project was completed very quickly, adding that Chinese Water Resources Minister Ye Jianchun admitted at a June 10 press conference that at least 148 The water level of the rivers is above the danger mark.

Instead of questioning the images showing the corrosion on the dam a year ago, Wang said a serious concern was the cracks and even the inferior concrete used in its construction, he said, adding that it was a terrible situation for people living in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. If possible, immediate preparations should be made to get them out of there.

In an interview with Radio France, the Chinese water expert also criticized the Chinese government and state media for refusing to acknowledge the potential danger of the reservoir, saying that scientists who speak the truth are treated like criminals.

According to CNTV, water has been accumulating inside the Three Gorges Dam and has risen two meters above the danger level, although the dam has been described by Binjing as one of the greatest engineering achievements in human history, but its design is being questioned.
