5.3 magnitude earthquake damages houses, cracks roads in Mizoram

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook Mizoram early this morning. Authorities said the houses were damaged and the roads were cracked.

According to the state Geology and Mineral Resource Department, no damage has been reported so far.

The quake affected many parts of the state, including the state capital Aizawl. According to officials, the quake damaged several houses and buildings and a church in Champhai district.

He further said that the quake caused cracks on highways and roads. However, the total number of casualties is not yet known. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga of all possible help.

"I spoke to Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Zoramathangaji about the post-earthquake situation," the Prime Minister said on Twitter. I have assured them of all possible help from the Central Government.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to Zoromathanga on the phone and got information about the situation. The epicenter was reported 20 km below the ground. The quake was also felt in Mizoram at 4.10 pm on Sunday, June 21. Whose intensity was 5.1.

The quake affected Meghalaya and Manipur. A magnitude 4.6 earthquake also shook the region on June 18. At 12.40 am, a magnitude 2.8 earthquake shook Nagaland. According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicenter was 44 km from Kohima.
