With the lifting of the lockdown, air pollution in China began to rise again

London, May 21, 2020, Thursday

The biggest benefit of the lockdown was to the environment, air pollution particles were reduced and rivers were cleaned. Reducing air pollution due to reduced human activity and intervention can be considered the biggest achievement, according to a data that has reduced carbon emissions on Earth by 17%, the first outbreak of the corona virus in China. The lockdown lasted for approximately 76 days in which pollution was significantly reduced. After the lockdown opened, people felt on the road like life that air pollution is increasing. According to a study published on May 18, the main reason for the 2.5 PM increase in nitrogen, carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide after the lockdown in the air was the resurgent industry.

China has increased industrial production to offset economic losses during the lockdown, which is having an impact on air pollution. According to the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air in Helsinki, air quality will continue to deteriorate in order to compensate for the damage caused by the Covid-19. Thus the benefit of air purification that was gained during the lockdown could be reversed. Currently, nitrogen dioxide levels are rising in areas of China where factories are found, according to data from more than 1,500 air quality monitoring stations. As of May 8, most cities in China had higher levels of pollution than in 2019.

The reduction in air pollution due to lockdowns in countries around the world was a tremendous achievement. If it is maintained at any cost, more people could be saved from deaths due to the corona virus, but it is futile to expect this from market-oriented countries like China. According to one source, 14 million people in Britain are preparing to leave motor vehicles and go to work on bicycles and on foot. The administration is trying to create a separate system for cyclists and pedestrians. Bicycle lanes are being widened in European cities such as London, Milan and Brussels to attract people to cycle.
