The biggest exodus, with 2050 trains running, left 70 per cent of the workers homeless

New Delhi, May 22, 2020, Friday

Amidst the Corona epidemic, the largest exodus in Indian history is unfolding right in front of our eyes. Many are saying that this is a bigger migration than the partition that took place at the time of independence.

Migrant workers are still crowding in front of the Tantra offices in different states to get to their hometowns. The railways have so far run 2,050 trains for migrant workers but 70 per cent of them are yet to return home.

3 million people have been delivered to their homes by railways. Even so, millions of people are still waiting for trains and buses to reach their homes.

According to an English newspaper, only 30 per cent tourists from Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Haryana and Punjab have been able to return home. The railways had planned to send 3 million people home but it seems that the number is much higher than estimated. That is why the railways is preparing to run about 300 trains a day.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that so far the highest number of 636 trains carrying laborers has returned from Gujarat. Which is higher than any other state. States like West Bengal, Rajasthan and Jharkhand, on the other hand, are not cooperating to run trains to get workers home.

According to an estimate

5 lakh out of 20 lakh people wanting to go home from Maharashtra

65000 people out of 4 lakh in Delhi

1.6 lakh out of 7.88 lakh people in Karnataka

2.78 lakh people out of 10.73 lakh from Haryana

2.7 lakh out of 17.19 lakh people from Punjab

1 lakh people from Rajasthan

Have departed to go home.
