No Wages and No Homecoming: Demonstration of laborers from UP to Punjab-Rajasthan

Trapped migrant workers are being repatriated in many parts of the country. In the midst of all this, the incidents of protests by workers and factory workers from different cities are also coming to the fore. The workers had blocked the entire highway after being stopped on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura.

In Sangrur, Punjab, workers protested against wages and forced labor, while in Alwar, workers took to the streets due to non-receipt of wages. Police lathicharged the laborers and also threatened to file a case. Even in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, after the pay was withheld, the workers clashed on the road.

Chakkajam on the Yamuna Expressway

On Thursday, some laborers were on their way home on their bicycles when they were stopped by police at the Agra-Mathura border. The agitated workers jammed the Yamuna Expressway. The laborers were on their way from Noida to Madhya Pradesh and other places and when they got the news of the traffic jam, they were horrified and were put in a truck-bus and sent away.

Demonstration of laborers in Sangrur

Employees of a private mill in Sangrur also staged a protest on Thursday. He protested with complaints that he was being paid less than he was paid and was being prevented from going out. The matter was also protested four days ago.

Demonstration for salary in Alwar

At Bhiwandi in Alwar district, angry workers staged a protest outside the factory gate on Thursday. Police rushed to the spot, charged the workers with batons and chased them away, threatening to register a case. The sub-divisional magistrate later dismissed the case and directed the factory owner to pay the wages.

Demonstrations by laborers in Bhilwara

In Bhilwara, as in Alwar, workers protested for wages. Workers at a factory on the Bhilwara-Chittorgarh highway scrambled for March and April wages. Police had to use light force to disperse the workers. However, the workers have threatened not to work until their demands are met.
