Monsoon in Kerala is likely to be four days late this year

Those hoping for relief from the scorching heat will have to wait a little longer for the rains. Normally, the south-west monsoon sets in in Kerala from June 1, but it is likely to be a little later this year. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the monsoon in Kerala is likely to start from June 5 this year with a model error of ± 4.

According to the meteorological department, the monsoon will set in in the southern state from June 5. With the onset of monsoon in Kerala, the four-month rainy season begins in the country. For the last 15 years, except for 2005, the meteorological department's forecast for monsoons has come true every year. The monsoon was forecast to reach Kerala on June 6 last year and two days later it started raining in Kerala from June 8.

The meteorological department had predicted that the monsoon would reach Kerala on May 29, 2018 and when it came true, it is likely to be around June 5 this year as well.

The monsoon in Kerala is projected to arrive a few days late but is forecast to receive 100 per cent rainfall this year which is very important for the agricultural economy. This is likely to lead to record production and is good news for farmers facing difficulties due to lockdowns.
