Introducing the H-1B Bill in the US Parliament will benefit Indian students already living in the US

Washington, Ta. May 23, 2020, Saturday

A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers has introduced a bill in both houses of Congress to amend a key H-1B visa. The introduction of the bill could be beneficial for Indian students already living in the US as it seeks to prioritize talented young men who have studied and excelled in the US.

The H-1B visa is a nonimmigrant visa that allows companies in the United States to employ foreign workers in a specialty occupation, which requires a special kind of theoretical and technical specialization. Companies rely on these visas to employ thousands of workers every year from countries like India and China.

On April 1, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said it had received 275,000 H-1B visa applications for foreign professionals in the technology sector, of which more than 67 per cent were from India.

There are more than two lakh Indian students in America. Under the H-1B and L-1 Visa Reform Act, the Department of Immigration Services will be the first to issue H-1B visas on a priority basis. Under the new system, priority will be given to the best and brightest students who have studied in the United States for H-1B visas.
