Delhi airport became home amid lockdown for German citizen, spent 55 days

New Delhi, May 12, 2020

Many people were trapped as all types of airlines were shut down following the lockdown imposed by Corona.

In the midst of all this was a German national who had to spend 55 days at the airport. He finally left India today. Edgard Jibat, 40, arrived in India on March 18 as a transit passenger. From here he was to go to Turkey. During the day, India banned flights to Turkey. As a result, the transit area became home for Jibat because he did not have an Indian visa.

Jibat also has a criminal record in Germany. That is why he did not apply for a visa in India. The German embassy offered him to return to Germany. Jibat refused.

However, after spending 55 days at the airport, the Indian government has now given him a notice to leave the country, which is why it is his turn to return.

Jibat is probably the first citizen to have spent 55 days at an Indian airport. He was flown to the Netherlands today.
