Cold War 2.0: US and Allies on one side, China-Russia on the other

New delhi date. 16 May 2020, Saturday

The Corona crisis has created a Cold War situation with the United States and its allies on one side and China and Russia on the other. Under these circumstances, even without any kind of violence with suspicion, hostility and aggression, the movement is seen in the army. This was an ideal feature of the Cold War, which lasted from 1945 to the late 1980s. Now the US is increasing its allies against China.

US ally Australia is now effectively moving towards severing trade ties with China. China is moving in this direction despite being Australia’s largest export market. Australia exports 30 per cent to China, which is seven per cent of its GDP. Also Chinese students and tourists do a lot of good business to Australia.

China is taking advantage of everything. China has stopped importing beef and barley from Australia after Prime Minister Scott Morris called for a comprehensive investigation into the Corona epidemic. However, Australia is still adamant.

Then comes Japan. Japan's chief cabinet secretary spoke about China's Uighurs. Japan is also trying to reduce its trade with China. Trump has always been known to take a U-turn but for the past few days he has been very aggressive towards China. On Thursday, the US president threatened to end US diplomatic relations with China.

Trump blamed China for the Corona virus epidemic and said he did not want to talk to Chinese President Xi Jinping. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently held a video conference with the foreign ministers of seven countries, the main purpose of which was to bring them against China. External Affairs Minister of India S. Jaishankar was also present at the meeting and apart from that Israel-South Korea also participated in it.

The meeting, which lasted about 75 minutes, focused on restructuring China's supply chain and ending China's dominance in world trade. In addition, the conflict could escalate on Monday, as WHO members will hold a video conference for the World Health Assembly.
