2.2 magnitude earthquake shakes Delhi, Dhara, Pitampura

New delhi date. 15 May 2020, Friday

This is the second consecutive earthquake in five days in Delhi. At 11:28 a.m. on Friday, an earthquake measuring 2.2 on the Richter scale was felt in Delhi. The epicenter was reported at Pitampura, Delhi, at a depth of 8 km.

However, the magnitude of the earthquake is very low so there is no possibility of heavy damage but for the second time in just five days the tremors are shocking. Earlier on May 10, a magnitude 3.4 earthquake shook Delhi-NCR.

This is the fourth consecutive earthquake in Delhi-NCR in the last one month during the lockdown. Earlier, on April 12 and 13, the Delhi-NCR land was also rocked.

According to Mahesh Palawat, vice president and meteorologist at Skymet, when a magnitude earthquake strikes a province, the likelihood of a low magnitude earthquake within a few days increases, which is called aftershocks. Earthquakes that occur in aftershocks are often half the magnitude and are not extremely damaging.
