Sri Lankan protest against forced death of people of all religions

Colombo, Ta. 13 April 2020, Monday

All countries around the world are currently doing all possible to prevent the spread of the Corona virus epidemic. Under that, the Sri Lankan government has forced the burning of the corpses of all religions - the burning of corpses. The Sri Lankan government has taken this decision by neglecting a small number of Muslims so that the government is heavily criticized and the Muslims are outraged by the decision.

Government accused of insulting religious sentiment

So far seven people have died in Sri Lanka due to the corona virus and three of them were Muslim. Family members of the three Muslim dead were burned to death despite their dissent. Sri Lanka has a population of about 2.1 million and Muslims make up 10% of the population. Following the decision, Muslim leaders accused the government of religious discrimination and insulting the family.

Curfew in Sri Lanka up to an indefinite period

In Sri Lanka, more than 200 people have been victims of the corona virus so far, and an indefinite curfew has been imposed. Sri Lankan Health Minister Pavitra Vaniyarachchi announced that the bodies would be burned in case of a corona virus infection or its suspected death. However, both options are open to the World Health Organization to have the funeral performed by burning or burying the bodies of those who have died from the corona virus.

Sri Lankan Muslims in tension after Easter attacks

Local terrorists attacked three Sri Lankan hotels and a church on Easter day in 2019, killing 279 people. Following the attack, tensions between Muslims and the majority of Sinhalese have spread. Sinhala attacked Muslims and blamed their houses and shops for setting fire to Muslims. However, on Sunday, the Sri Lankan Catholic Church issued a statement saying they had forgiven suicide attackers.
