Madhya Pradesh: Shivraj Singh Chouhan's government proves majority in Assembly

After the departure of Congress's Kamal Nath government, the BJP has formed a government in Madhya Pradesh.

New Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who was sworn in as CM on Monday, also proved his majority in the assembly today. Meanwhile, no Congress MLA was present. BSP and SP as well as independent MLAs have also endorsed Shivraj Singh's government.

The session, which will start from today, will run till the 27th. Specifically, there will be by-elections for 26 seats in the state within the next six months. Out of which 9 seats have to be won by Shivraj Singh to retain power.

There are a total of 230 seats in the assembly. Two of these seats were vacant due to the demise of the legislators. At 22 seats, the Congress Congressman, a supporter of the former Congress leader Scindia, resigned. Thus, 24 seats are currently vacant.
