(PTI) New Delhi, Ta. March 6, 2020, Friday

The Income Tax Department has summoned senior Congress leader and Treasurer Ahmed Patel in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Congress party's financial transactions over allegations of tax evasion.

Ahmed Patel has been given notice to appear as party treasurer. Regarding the summons, Ahmed Patel said, "I am surprised to see this summons. He further said that our account is transparent and clear. Instead of scrutinizing our accounts, the Income Tax Department should look into the BJP receiving the record fund.

I would definitely go because he called me, but I don't know why he called me. He further said that BJP has received Rs 10,000 crore election fund through cash and check. No party has ever received such a large amount of donations in the history of the country. This is a nilgir corruption.

Ahmed Patel was also summoned earlier this February but he did not appear at the time for reasons that his health was not good. It is likely to appear before the income tax department early next month.
