The Supreme Court of the political parties has strongly condemned the issue of giving tickets to candidates with criminal past.
The Supreme Court has directed political parties to submit information on their website along with the reason why candidates with criminal past were selected.
The court has ruled that the number of such candidates has increased in every political party over the past four years. The court has given political parties 48 hours to publish the information of such candidates on the website. After that, every political party will have to report it to the Supreme Court within 72 hours.
The court has also warned that if the parties do not comply with this directive, action will be taken against the court for contempt. The court has told the Election Commission that if the non-adherence is not followed, a petition for contempt will be filed in the court.
The Court has also commented that the choice of the candidates should not be based on their merits or their merits on the basis of their chances of winning cannot be the basis of selection.
The Supreme Court also directs political parties to publish credentials, achievements and criminal antecedents on candidates, newspapers, social media platforms and their website while giving a reason for selection of candidates with criminal antecedents. https://t.co/HE0Om38zGn
