Sunni waqf board to build mosque, hospital, library on five acres

Lucknow, Ta. February 24, 2020, Monday

The Sunni Waqf Board will accept five acres of land granted by the state government for the construction of a mosque in Ayodhya. The decision was taken at a Sunni Waqf board meeting held in Lucknow on Monday.

Sunni Waqf Board Chairman Zafar Ahmed Farooqi informed the media about the decisions taken at the meeting. The meeting lasted about two and a half hours, with six of the eight members of the board present, while two members boycotted the meeting.

Ramjam Bhoomi - As per the Supreme Court order in the Babri Masjid case, the Uttar Pradesh government had decided to allocate five acres of land for the mosque in Dhanipur village in Sohawal area of Ayodhya.

A trust will be set up to build a mosque on this land. Whose proprietors will be announced after the formation of the trust. On the land allotted by the state government, a center will be set up along with a mosque, which will show Indo-Islamic membership. At the same time, a charitable hospital and public library will be built as well as other useful facilities, sources said.

Responding to a question as to whether the mosque would be named Babri Masjid, Farooqi said that the decision on the name of the mosque would be decided by the trust. The board has nothing to do with it. A decision will be taken on the size of the mosque considering the needs of the family.

The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the construction of the temple in a historic ruling in November over the Ramjam Bhumi-Babri Masjid dispute. The court also directed the state and central government to allot an additional five acres for the construction of a mosque in Ayodhya.

However, following the Supreme Court ruling, there were suggestions from the Muslim community that the Sunni Waqf Board should not accept alternative land. Besides, suggestions were also given on the construction of public facilities such as hospitals rather than mosques.

However, the Sunni Waqf Board made it clear that after the Supreme Court ruling, the Waqf Board had no option but to accept five acres of alternative land for construction of a mosque in Ayodhya. Because if the land is not accepted then the court will be disrespected. Following a Supreme Court ruling, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet on February 5 decided to allocate five acres of land to the Waqf Board in Dhanipur village in Sohawal area of Ayodhya.
