Nirbhaya case: Death warrant issued for the third time, likely to be executed on March 3rd

New delhi date. February 17, 2020, Monday

Delhi's Patiala House Court has issued a death warrant for the accused in the Nirbhaya case for the third time. According to the latest warrant, the convicts will be hanged at 6am on March 3rd. However, people will have faith when the executions actually happen. As has been declared death warrant twice before, but has not been hanged.

The reason for not being hanged is legal entanglement. It is not yet certain whether the execution will take place on a given date. One of the four accused Pawan still has legal options to halt the execution. Using it means that it can be hanged again.

Earlier, the court had clearly told all the four accused that within a week, the legal options you have to use should be used. That deadline expired on February 11th. The court said that as the deadline expired, a new death warrant could be announced to hang the gallows.

Earlier, the two warrants were announced on January 22 and February 1, but the court rejected the warrant saying that the guilty should also get legal options.

Meanwhile, Nirbhaya's mother was disappointed and said that once more the date has been announced, now the hanging is fine. Because every time the date is announced the execution is stopped in the name of legal options. Meanwhile, SP Singh, the lawyer for the convicts, had said that there were still legal alternatives to prevent the execution of the criminals.

Government prosecutor Singh also informed the court that Vinay, one of the four accused, quit eating and drinking on the 11th. His health is not good, too many injuries. The court instructed the jail officer to take care of him according to the law.

On the other hand, the accused Akshay wants to apply for mercy once more, the lawyer said. Wind, who has the option, also wants to try both the Curative Petition and the President's application. That is, the legal impediments to the execution still exist.
