MNREGA cuts 13% amid weak rural economy

On the one hand, there are reports of unemployment in the country. MNREGA has been allotted 13% less than previously allocated.

61,500 crore has been allotted to the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaram following the budget submitted by Mubarak MNREGA. 71,001.81 crore during the last financial year. That is, it has been reduced to about 10 thousand crores which is estimated to be around 13%.

On the one hand, the MGNREGA is considered to be the only scheme that helps the youth and others in the rural areas, as the situation in rural areas is deteriorating. However, experts fear that the situation could worsen in the countryside if the government cuts back the money allocated to it. Demand for MGNREGA is also increasing with the increase of population as employment in other sectors is also slowing down.

A report claims that the government is having difficulty in executing the scheme, it is getting late to allocate money to the people involved with the scheme, and now only 2500 crore have been spent to run the scheme for the next two months. The 1.22 lakh crore previously allocated for other rural development projects has now been reduced to 1.20 lakh crore.
