However, experts fear that the situation could worsen in the countryside if the government cuts back the money allocated to it. Demand for MGNREGA is also increasing with the increase of population as employment in other sectors is also slowing down.
A report claims that the government is having difficulty in executing the scheme, it is getting late to allocate money to the people involved with the scheme, and now only 2500 crore have been spent to run the scheme for the next two months. The 1.22 lakh crore previously allocated for other rural development projects has now been reduced to 1.20 lakh crore.
