Curative petition in Supreme Court of Nirbhaya offender to avoid hanging

Pawar Kumar Gupta, the culprit of the Nirbhaya case, has filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court. While a death warrant has been issued for the execution of all four on March 3rd, Pawan has tried his last option.

Delhi court has issued a death warrant on March 3 for the execution of Nirbhaya criminals. As the deadline for the execution comes to a close, a convict Pawan has filed a curative petition in the Supreme. In the petition, his lawyer has demanded the death sentence be changed to life imprisonment.

Of the four, Wind was the only culprit who survived the judicial option of a curative petition. All three offenders filed a curative petition, which was rejected.

Pawan has not yet filed a mercy petition to the President, so an alternative to the mercy petition is still left to him. Apart from that, the President has rejected the mercy application of the remaining three.

It is worth mentioning that the central government made a petition last week to the Supreme Court that the judicial option of the culprits should be hanged. Earlier, the high court had ruled that all four could not be hanged separately.

The ruling was challenged by the government in the Supreme Court. The petition will be heard in the Supreme Court on March 5th. On the other hand, since the Delhi court has issued a death warrant for the execution of all four people on March 3, it has been difficult to decide whether the death sentence will take place.
