The document of the founding of India is the constitution which completed 70 years on Republic Day. The Dehradun-based Survey of India, which printed the first one thousand copies of the constitution, sold the photolithographic machine to the debris last year, which has now been informed.
Last year, both machines were sold in rupees for one and a half lakh rupees. Lithographic plates of that machine were also sold long ago.
The Constitution of India was printed only on sovereign and monarch machines manufactured by Britain's RW Crabtree & Sons. The machines, which had printed a thousand copies in the press at Dehradun's Elephant Kala, had previously been broken into separate pieces. Visiting the printing press, it was clearly seen that the timetable for oiling in Monarch was written on the wall.
The format was printed by lithography printing from two original handwritten copies. It was handwritten in English by Prem Bihari Raizada and written in Hindi by Vasant Krishna Vaidhe. It was written by Shantiniketan's calligraphers and illustrators Nandlal Bose, Bihor Ram Manohar Sinha and others. The first copy was of a mature puta which is still kept safely in the closet of the Northern Printing Division today.
Surveyor General of India (Retd) Lt. Gen. Girish Kumar said the cost of maintaining both machines was very expensive and its technology was outdated.
He added that the machines were demolished and subsequently auctioned in the wreckage. 'Why are you using old machines because of new technology being printed today? We are certainly proud to print the first copy of the Constitution of India, ”said Lt. Gen. Kumar.
