The state of Nagaland declared a disturbed area for six months by the Home Ministry

New Delhi / Guwahati, Tal. December 31, 2019, Tuesday

The Home Ministry has declared the entire Nagaland state a "disturbed area" for six months from December 30, 2019 to June-2020 under the controversial Armed Forces Special Protection Act (AFSA). Under the provisions of the aforesaid Act, security forces can conduct investigations anywhere without any prior knowledge. And anyone can detain.

The ministry issued a notification saying that the central government feels that there is unrest and dangerous situation in the entire Nagaland state area that civilian authorities need to provide the help of the armed forces.

It has been decided to continue the declaration that Nagaland is considered a turbulent area as the contamination of murder, robbery and coercion in various parts of the state is widespread.

The announcement that the region is considered a turbulent area has been continued as action is needed to facilitate the security forces operating in Nagaland. The AFSPA law was implemented six decades ago in Nagaland.

At that time, protests were taking place across the state in support of the increasingly demanding autonomy of the insurgents. On August 3, 2015, a law granting special powers to the armed forces was not withdrawn despite the signing of an agreement between the Naga rebel group and the government in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
