Taranjit Singh Sandhu appointed India's ambassador to the United States

Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed India's new ambassador to the United States. He is currently the Indian Ambassador to Sri Lanka. Sandhu has been appointed to replace Harshvardhan Shringala in the US. Shringala is returning to India this week and will now take over as Foreign Secretary.

The current Foreign Secretary of India, Vijay Gokhale, is due to retire later this month. Shringala has been appointed new Foreign Secretary in place of Gokhale. Sandhu has been made US ambassador. Along with this is Javed Ashraf, who is currently Singapore ambassador. He has been appointed ambassador to France. In the last few years, political relations between India and France have become closer. The current ambassador to France, Vinay Quatra, will take over as Nepal's ambassador. The current Ambassador to Nepal, Manjiv Singh Puri, has just retired.

The familiar face for Washington DC is Sandhu

America's new ambassador, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, is a familiar face to Washington DC's diplomatic corridor. He previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Washington from 2013 to 2017. He also served in the Indian Mission in Washington from 1997 to 2000. Sandhu is believed to be well aware of Washington's work culture.
