No Documents Required for National Population Register: Ministry of the Interior


The census will take place from 1st April to 30th September

The Home Ministry clarified on the National Population Register (NPR) that no documents would be needed during the NPR process. This was disclosed by the Home Ministry after various speculations.

Home Ministry officials clarified that people will not be required to provide any documents during the census program from April 1st to September 30th.

Many states, including West Bengal, raised questions about the government's demand for documents during the census. Then the government made this clear.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry announced a meeting with the states to discuss the census. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, however, announced that West Bengal would not be present at the January 17 meeting.

According to the Home Ministry, the chairperson of the meeting will be the Home Minister of the state and the top officials of the Home Ministry will be present. There will be consultation with representatives of the state regarding the census process.
