Earlier, the execution was to be halted on May 22, however, the Delhi government had said in the Delhi High Court that no one could be hanged in such a case if any of the four offenders had a mercy petition pending before the President.

Now that the mercy petition has been rejected by the President, a new death warrant was issued by the lower court and an order has been issued to hang all four criminals at six hours on February 1st.

Any offender has the last resort to plead guilty to the death penalty, though one of the four offenders has applied for mercy, which the president has rejected. By rejecting this mercy petition, no law can be saved by hanging the offender now.

Earlier, the offender Vinay filed a curative petition which has already been revoked. However, Vinay still has his way of applying for mercy. While the other two offenders, Akshay and Pawan did not use any of the curative petition and mercy petition.
