Kerala's CAA resolution is unconstitutional

Kochi Ta 2 January 2020, Thursday

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan made it clear that the Kerala Legislative Assembly's resolution not to implement the CAA was unconstitutional.

Arif Mohammed Khan was once a senior Congress leader. Currently he is the Governor of Kerala.

He said that citizenship was solely a matter of central government. No state can oppose the central government's enactment. That is why the CAA resolution made by the Kerala Legislature is illegal and unconstitutional.

The Kerala government submitted an anti-CAA proposal to the Legislature this week which was approved by the legislature. The BJP is the only MLA in the Kerala assembly, who opposed the proposal but did not generate any opposition.

It should be remembered here that Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also said that states which oppose CAA should seek the opinion of legal experts of their choice. States cannot enforce any law enforced by the Center.
