Diligarh made a whopping Rs 1,000 crore liquor in December

New delhi date. 2 January 2020, Thursday

Delhiites were reported to have drunk Rs 1,000 crore a month on the pretext of a cold surge in December.

The revenue department had more revenue in December this year than it did in product duty. The largest liquor was sold between December 25th and 31st, the report said.

The excise tax department said that in December alone, 1,000 crore liquor was sold in Delhi alone, resulting in Rs 465 crore in tax and duty deposited in government treasury. There is a 48 percent sales tax on alcohol. During the same period last year, Rs 460 crore was deposited in the government treasury.

An official spokesman said that this year, 485 crore sales were expected to be taxed, but in December this year, 120 departmental stores in Delhi were closed due to various reasons and agitations so liquor sales were not as expected.

In other months of the year, these department stores sell liquor worth Rs 15 crore a month. In December, liquor sales increase to 22-25 million rupees. The wine was sold in such good quantities as it was colder this year.
