Assam creates history, mass surrender of 677 extremists

Police have had great success in troubled Assam due to terrorism. 644 extremists of the 8 banned outfits in the state have surrendered to the police with 177 weapons.

All of these extremists belong to various organizations, including the ULFA. Assam Chief Minister Sarwananda Sonowal was also present at this time. Assam police chief Jyoti Mahanta said, "It is a big day for the state and the police." Never surrendered on such a large scale.

The weapons the militants have handed over to the police include sophisticated weapons such as the AK-47 and AK-56. These extremists will be given jobs in Assam police. The extremists have surrendered at a time when assembly elections are due to take place next year.
